The APG on Wholesale Financial Markets and Services provides a medium through which parliamentarians, particularly those with a financial services interest, may be briefed on matters affecting the financial services and markets industry, including:

  • Banking and Investment Services
  • Asset Management
  • Wholesale Insurance Services
  • Equity, Debt and Derivatives
  • Commodities: Agriculture and Base Metals
  • Energy and Power: Oil, Gas and Electricity
  • The Environment: Weather Derivatives and Emissions Trading

With the relationship between Government, regulators and the City under growing public, political and press scrutiny, the need for this Group has never been greater. Its role is to provide a valuable mechanism for more open and pragmatic dialogue between Westminster and the City and a constructive forum for debate on:

  • delivering a better understanding of the role of wholesale markets in the wider economy and the environment;
  • understanding their impact in the High Street and on retail consumer services;
  • monitoring the international competitiveness of the wholesale markets;
  • high impact events affecting the financial services sector.

The main purpose of the Group is to be educational and to provide a means by which Peers and MPs can obtain an industry view on topical issues or matters which they may be required to consider as part of their parliamentary responsibilities.
